Yesterday was exhausting. I only got a few hours of sleep before the alarm went off and Mom called to say she was on her way home from work to take me up to Havasu for the day. My hair appointment was at 10AM, unfortunately, which is an insane hour of the morning for me to be awake. I'm a night owl. I only start considering laying down around 4AM and I never usually fall asleep until well after 5AM.
In any case, my hair came out great. Lichin bleached the roots for three hours (very long, painful three hours - I was there so long that I had to order lunch) and I have to admit, the outcome was pretty awesome. The plan was to have the roots bleached and then go home to apply the color myself, since I have the color and it costs me that much less money, but the white/gold roots and the pink ends looked so awesome that I almost didn't want to put in the color at all. It almost looked deliberate.
I can't wait to go back there again. I want a touch-up on the cut next month, maybe a few other things, too. Manicure, eyebrow reshaping, etc. Ever since I moved, it's been difficult finding the time to have salon days, which sucks, because I used to have them once every month. I can live without them, of course, and it's not the end of the world if I have to skip every now and then since I can do most of the work that they do at a salon myself, but it's nice to sit back and let someone else worry about it for a while. Very relaxing. I mean, if one disregards root-bleaching, which is exceedingly uncomfortable (wouldn't wish three hours of that on my worst enemy. She knows who she is).
After my hair appointment, I dropped by Hastings for old times' sake. Sam and I used to go there almost every day of our lives for a good faction of our teenage years. It sucks going without her, since she knows the routine and the protocol. Main manga section first, best renters wall second, our secret section third, and then the Hardback Cafe for the seasonal special and a blueberry muffin last. Good times.
I'm gonna get to do her hair when I go up to Phoenix next week. I might also bring her a present from Mexico. :) Assuming all goes well, anyway. I'm hoping to go through the border without any trouble, but depending on how they react to seeing my short-form birth certificate, I might get sent to secondary or something. Hey, it was issued to my mom at the time of my birth, it's embossed with the state seal, and it's got very official-looking lettering on it. I'd say it's good enough to prove my identity as a US citizen. Mom says that they might give me a little more trouble because I was born on a border city... I wasn't aware of this. I'm not too worried yet, though.
My only concern is that the US Border Patrol might decide that I look Mexican and decide to hold me up. I'm not Mexican. But a lot of people I meet seem to think that I'm Mexican, just because I live in Arizona and have slightly dark skin. Yet others think that I'm Native American. I never know what to tell them because when I say that I'm Spanish, they make an immediate connection to Mexico - and then I have to correct them again. For all that, I could just save myself the trouble and say yes, I'm Mexican, but then the Border Patrol will harass me...
Eiri can't win!
Eiri is also very cold.
Coming outside to blog has become fairly normal. I don't know why. It's freezing cold out here at night, but I still bring my laptop out onto the porch so I can rant about my day. It's kind of refreshing, I guess, the night air. I live somewhat close to the highway, but I live far enough away from it and close enough to the water that the air here is pretty clean. I could deal without the black widow spiders camping out near the corner of the stairs, though. I had to kill one yesterday, which I wasn't very happy about, since I don't like killing bugs when they're outside minding their own business (when they come inside the house is a different story altogether). I had no real choice, though, since Kage likes befriending anything that comes into the yard (including skunks, cats, and giant beetles).
I should be asleep right about now. Mom is taking off work early today to drive with me to Mexico. My dentist appointment is at 2PM, but I want to leave myself at least an hour-long cushion to clear the border in case the lines are really long and in case they do send me to secondary. And since the border is about two hours from my town, that means we have to leave around... 10-11AM. Five/six hours from now. And since I have to get up an hour earlier than that to feed the dogs and let them out and whatnot... yeah, I really should be in bed, rather than blogging about it.
I'm hoping to be able to stay in Mexico over the weekend. If I do, I probably won't have internet access... My phone probably won't work, either, since I don't have international. That's gonna suck...
On a completely random closing note, the NYX makeup that I ordered arrived today. :)
In my world, love is for poets - never the famous balcony scene.
